Pet Microchips & Tattoos

Dog getting a microchip

Having permanent identification on your pet is always a good idea! We can recommend two different types of identification.

Tattoo–A tattoo is a 5-6 letter & number marking that is located on the inside of your pet’s ear. If your pet is lost, the finder can call a shelter or veterinary clinic, tell them the tattoo number and get information to help reunite you with your pet. Tattoos can fade over time and only cover British Columbia.

Microchip – A microchip is a small, rice size chip that is inserted under the skin by the shoulder blades and can be read by a scanner. If your pet is lost, the finder can take your animal to a shelter or a clinic and have the microchip number scanned. With the microchip number the shelter or clinic can call the microchip company and get information to help reunite you with your pet. Microchips do not fade and they cover all of North America.
